About Haraldsplass Deaconess Hospital

Haraldsplass Deaconess Hospital is one of Norway’s three major non-profit hospitals. We serve as a local hospital for internal medicine in the districts of Åsane, Arna, and Bergenhus, as well as the municipalities of Samnanger, Gulen, and the Nordhordland region.

The hospital offers specialized healthcare services in internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, and radiology, along with outpatient services. We have special expertise in geriatrics and accept referrals for planned treatment in selected medical, surgical, and orthopedic areas. Additionally, we provide emergency services in internal medicine, surgery, and orthopedics.

As an integral part of the public healthcare system, the hospital operates under an agreement with Helse Vest RHF. We maintain close collaboration with Helse Bergen, the 18 municipalities in our catchment area, and other non-profit healthcare providers in the Bergen region.

What Does It Mean to Be a Non-Profit Hospital?

Haraldsplass Deaconess Hospital AS is a non-profit organization, meaning any financial surplus is not distributed to owners but reinvested to strengthen the hospital’s mission.

Pioneering the Welfare Society

Historically, non-profit organizations have played a key role in shaping Norway’s welfare society, even before public and commercial entities became involved. Today, these organizations continue to be essential partners and contributors to the specialized healthcare system.

For decades, non-profit hospitals have built expertise and played an active role in strengthening collaboration between specialized and primary healthcare services. They are an integrated part of the public healthcare system and contribute significantly to value creation and service provision in Norway’s specialist healthcare sector.
